Called to the Ontario bar in 2001, Meghan O’Brien spent most of her early career in the Ottawa office of Gowling WLG. During that time, Meghan’s litigation practice focused primarily on professional liability and discipline, in particular in the area of medical defence. Meghan also has significant experience in the area of privacy compliance and advocacy in the healthcare sector, including the management of privacy and data breaches. When Meghan opened her own law firm in 2016, she expanded her practice to include criminal law, which was the focus of her LL.M. studies at the University of Cambridge. Meghan is currently the Managing Principal of Lamb & O’Brien, a boutique law firm specializing in criminal and regulatory law that she co-founded in 2019.

Meghan is an active member of the bars in Ontario and in Nunavut, where she was also called in 2010. She has represented clients at all levels of court in Ontario, at the Nunavut Court of Justice and at the Supreme Court of Canada. She has also represented clients at Coroner’s inquests, both in Ontario and Nunavut. Meghan regularly appears before administrative tribunals, including the Discipline and Fitness to Practice Committees of several health profession regulators, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the Information and Privacy Commissioner (Ontario). Meghan’s administrative law practice also includes representing students involved in internal university proceedings. In addition, Meghan maintains an active advisory practice in relation to the healthcare sector.

A member of the Law Society of Nunavut’s Discipline Committee since 2014, Meghan is actively involved in the regulation of the legal profession. Meghan is also a legal member of the Ottawa Health Science Network Research Ethics Board.
